Filming Series 8 of Doc Martin in Cornwall in 2017
21 March 2017
As the very many Doc Martin fans around the world will be aware, our picturesque village, Port Isaac, is the film location for this ever popular ITV series.
For those of you not so familiar with the TV programme, there have been 7 previous series! The village of Port Isaac is given the fictitious name of Port Wenn, and the show’s central character, Doc Martin (played by Martin Clunes) is a curmudgeonly GP who has relocated in Cornwall following a career as a surgeon in London. The ‘plot’ generally revolves around his relationships and dealings with his estranged wife, Louisa, the local Primary School Head Teacher (played by Caroline Catz), and the various characters living and working in the village.
We hear that filming is due to start at the end of March to the end of July. Actual dates for filming in the village are not normally available until a few days beforehand – we’ll keep you posted via our Facebook page.
The cast and crew are extremely welcoming to all visitors and locals, who turn up to watch the filming, and there is a general feeling of bonhomie in the village. Martin Clunes is unfailingly cheerful and always goes out of his way to stop and say hello to any dogs as well as pose for countless ‘selfies’. Ian McNeice, the actor who plays Bert Large is extremely popular in the community and is often seen out and about selflessly fundraising for local causes.
So if you fancy a short break or holiday combined with some fun street action in Port Isaac, why not book yourself a holiday at the Green Door Cottages? We’re just 5 minutes walk from the village and some scenes are also filmed right here in Port Gaverne (namely, the Policeman’s house and the beach).
